First, we love you all!
Here is a brief explanation for why a) we jumped the gun and combined Facebook accounts before marriage, and b) why the heck we would abandon Instagram and
our private FB accounts.
**DISCLAIMER**
We are NOT saying this is right for everyone, a lot of you have just asked us why we are doing this so we thought this is a good way to inform you all! We may end up deciding it is not the best option (like reinstalling Instagram and Twitter haha) but as of now we are excited about it, and plan to follow through with this game plan! :)
We love keeping in contact with our friends and family, but social media can be & definitely has gone out of control. We still plan to keep in contact with our loved ones (you are one of them if you're reading this) but in a different way. We don't plan to get rid of completely, we're not THAT big of freaks (okay...maybe we are). We assume the majority of the people reading this are more prone to using their Facebook accounts, or at least use both Instagram AND Facebook, and that is what we are happy about. We have decided to delete Instagram and Twitter (after this semester, I need it for class), and of COURSE keep blogging and just post a lot more of what we're doing to FB. Here are the reasons why we decided to go on a strike against social media:
- Mitch is lazy and doesn't adequately inform his family and friends how much he loves me :) Let's just say he needs my help keeping Facebook up-to-date.
- Both of us have always known deep down that how much people our age use it (our generation) is a complete waste of time. It's great to keep in contact with close friends and family, but not check it on our phones 1,000 times a day.
- All we see walking around campus--or anywhere really--is people "plugged" (nerdy term) into their phones all day every day, and we know a huge part of those people, if not all of them, are on social media in some form.
- It's ridiculous to think we both, admittedly, can't sit through an hour and a half school lecture without instinctively pulling up Instagram or twitter. A lot of times we keep scrolling even though we've already seen it 3 times throughout the day...why?
- Having a little sister in high school, we are both around a lot of high schoolers who we follow a lot on social media and it's obvious a lot of them are living in a "fake" or different electronic world, never really fully getting engaged in real life. There is so much more to life than the electronic world and we don't want get sucked in. We take a lot of pics and that's obviously very important for us to record all of our memories, but when we are posting them and keeping track of the likes (especially since we went through all our followers and realized maybe only 20% of them are actually close to us)...it just all seems worthless to do that. And maybe all our posts were getting annoying :) but don't fear, you'll still be getting all our cheesiness on Facebook now :) On the bright side, at least this way you can "unsubscribe" on Facebook without us ever knowing...To all you Instagram unfollowers, we know who you are :)
- Although it's so good to use social media to stay connected to close friends and family, we realized most of our biggest supporters connect to us on Facebook, so in reality we're not disconnecting from any of you.
- The more we talked about the blog, the more we realized we want that to be our "journal" of dating/marriage/life and we'd rather post more detailed stories/pictures etc. on the blog instead of randomly posting them on three different mediums: Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Now that we're both done looking for our significant others (May 23rd marriage baby)...it'll be so nice for both of us to get out of the "single dating" aspect of social media and use it the way we want to use it long term...close friends and family.
- We both have seen relationships fail or undergo unnecessary hardship because of social media (unnecessary flirting, old high school flings making an appearance, a cute person of the opposite sex trying to swoop in, being distracted with the lives of others, comparing to other couples, and so much more). Obviously we're really committed each other, hence the reason we're willing to let go of all of our individual social media, and the reason why so many younger married friends have recommended doing something similar to this.
- We want to be able to always live in and enjoy the moment as opposed to worrying about what to post to get a "laugh" or a "like," which in the end does not matter at all.
Long story short, don't worry, we still love all of you and want to stay connected :) We just want to do it in a more effective way. The only downfall is, it will now say "Mitch N Stacey" when we write back or comment on Facebook, but in reality we will soon be married, you've been following us for the past few months as a team, and we want to keep it that way. So by all of means, comment, like, laugh, make fun of us, and we'll always know who it's directed to...we're not THAT dumb. We promise. We know keeping our individuality in our marriage is important, and will make life more fun for us, but doing it through social media is not the way we want to do it.
